Project description
Marine Coatings

The Marine Coatings project proposes to develop characterisation factors for chemicals emitted from hull coatings, including biocides and silicone oils.

Marine Coating

Background & project objective

Main goal of the proposed project is to develop characterisation factors for chemicals emitted from hull coatings, including biocides and silicone oils.

Focus beyond the development of marine ecotoxicity characterization factors for selected chemicals found in marine coating products includes a sensitivity analyses and requirements to guarantee the scientific robustness of the proposed factors.

Project output

Main project output focuses on the three main aspects that are listed in below table.

AspectOutput description
Data collectionReview of collected toxicity model input data, incl. feedback for collected data and data-gap filling; Input data consistency check
Data correlation & gap fillingInput for data gap filling (extrapolation, QSAR, read across, etc.); Review of final toxicity model input dataset
USEtox modelling & testingSupport for toxicity model setup for data and scenario integration, and model runs, incl. scenario adaptation (e.g. speciation, marine ecotoxicity matrix system and effect data, etc.); Input for model results interpretation (intermediate and final characterization results), including correct coupling with inventory results; Results visualization support and input for conference contribution
LCA integration & interpretationSupport for correct integration of toxicity model results into broader LCA study (metal molar weight correction, unit conversion for ecotoxicity, etc.)
